Lord, I need strength.

Right decision?!

My mind's in a turmoil right now. I am not sure if I made the right decision in applying for a one-year Honours program. Results aside, what happens if I am given an offer? I mean, my parents have borrowed a loan just to support my university education at Flinders. Its a pity I was not born into a wealthy family. Perhaps, I should change one of my requirement when looking for a partner to one should be wealthy, just like one of my colleague.

Maybe, I will not even be accepted into the programme. Perhaps at that time, I can say,"Well, you've tried and you have been rejected. Now, you don't have to worry about extra finances." I know it sounds pessimistic. But, there are always two sides of the coin right? I just prefer the darker, more gloomy sight for now.

The Feeling

Its that time of the year again. The feeling is slowly seeping into your skin. Friends whom I have made while studying abroad are starting to return to Adelaide one by one. This year, I felt that time just fly.


The feeling of..

stepping into the plane, knowing you will reach that land within the stated time printed on the air ticket;

having to resettle back into study life;
having to leave your comfort zone and trying to find comfort in a foreign land;
unpacking and re-organising your room / house to make it feel as comfy as possible;
having to read through heaps of readings, finishing assignments and studying for the dreaded E word - EXAMS;
hearing your loved ones on the telephone and not being able to hug them;
wanting to be home when your home country has a public holiday and your "temporary" one doesn't;
spending time chilling out with your friends and catching up on each other's summer vacation;
driving to some region that you'd never get such an opportunity from where you come from;
basking out in the sun in bikinis and beach shorts, throwing frisbee, splashing seawater at your company;
cooking together and making your own student life more exciting;
celebrating your company's birthday(s) in a foriegn land;
getting to know that other person more;
hopping on the plane at the end of the year;
counting down to the day when you take your first breath of humid air;
seeing your loved ones at the end of the year;
hearing your family and friends saying, "You've put on weight".


Ok, you get what I mean.

Happy Pig New Year

The once a year event is here and it is a time where many Chinese use this opportunity to celebrate, rekindle as well as strengthen relationships. However, as ironic as it gets, it is one of the most dreaded time of the year where single individuals get asked about their relationship status, "Do you have a boy/girlfriend?"; If one is attached, "When you are going to get married?"; If one is married, "When are you going to have kid(s) to balance out the greying population?" Oh well! Nonetheless, it is also the time where one allows the tastebuds to savour the goodies, putting the weight-losing thought at the back of the mind, thinking, "It is a once a year event, I can lose weight after the festivities are over!"

This year, my Chinese New Year is similiar to the other years. When I was young, my looking forward to the new year was the collection of red packets. However, each year passes, I look forward to the time spent catching up with relatives that I get to see once a year, looking at my nieces and nephews, thinking how fast they are growing up, with thoughts that I am getting older each year.

With the opportunity to be able to be in Singapore to celebrate the Lunar New Year, I have nothing to complain about. It is truely fortunate for me to be able to be with my family. I love the time that I spent in Adelaide but I love even more the time spent at home!

Happy Pig New Year, peeps! And have a safe trip to those catching flights back to start the new academic year!

Seeing double?

Let me re-enact the entire scene for you.

It was a nice afternoon with the sun shinning and smiling brightly. I decided that to have a dip at the swimming pool with my siblings (minus my older sis). Being at the swimming complex on a saturday proved to be a tricky situation with little tadpoles learning to swim. Anyway, my sis and I were swimming back the end where we first started. Upon touching the wall, I overheard a comment that a mother was telling her daughter, "Let the twins swim first before we go." Upon hearing that, my younger sis and I exchanged looks and we were like, "HUH?!" Twins? No! Just because we were wearing the same swim suit does not make us twins.

Cross junction

Having worked in the public health sector for close to 2 months, I can't help but wonder what I'm going do upon graduation. My deputy director once mentioned in passing that hopefully, I will join them upon graduation. I still remember my childhood (or should I say, adolescent? Since I decided on this career path when I was 14?) dream of becoming a dietitian. However, the longer I'm working at the Health Promotion Board, the more I am beginning to enjoy the work that I am doing, never mind the tight dateline and tonnes of research and reading.

Perhaps, I will only know whether its my calling when I graduate. Whatever comes my way, I will gladly accept it.

*Looks up and mumurs, "Lord, please guide me along the way and I pray that you will be able to show me the way. Amen."
