Judging Others

From the bible, Luke 6:41-42 says,"Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother's eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye? How can you say to your brother, 'Brother, let me take the speck out of your eye,' when you yoursef fail to see the plank in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother's eye."

Working with a permanent staff for the last 2 wks has been driving me nuts. She maybe physically present at work but her mind and heart is not there. We can cope without her being there. What's more, she has the guts to tell off another promoter for being late when she herself leave early for breaks and come back late. My gdness!!! How come people like her exist? I always ask the othe promoters why she does not get transferred to the other departments or get fired? But they commented that she has been transferred many a times..[Sigh!!]

Also, she does not make herself useful at the company, does not push sales, attend to customers need and even told a customer that the pants does not have his size and guess what, the customer found the pants of his size...Imgaine the anguish the customer felt. I get pissed off when I see her around as she does not bother helping her colleagues. When there's a long line of customers waiting to pay for their merchandise, she does not lift her "dainty" fingers to help pack the stuff, instead, she's busy pressing her pimples...Yucks!

So, as Luke 6:31 says,"Do to others as you would have them do to you."My colleague and I decided that when there's a long line of customers queuing up to pay, we will not help her in the packing of their merchandise. I am not that nice to extend my helping hand after her attitude towards us.Call me selfish but I personally think that she does not deserve my help. I am glad that I will only be there for a month..

P/s: Shee wee, thanks for helping me tie up those loose ends left behind by OLTC...I am glad that I had you as the Co-Organisor...

All in the line of Sales

As the saying goes, "The customer is always right", how very true this saying has been so far!Every Those in the service line will certainly agree because in every service sector, there is this monster and it starts with C in the retail line...U've guessed it..its CUSTOMERS. Then, its called by different names in different service sectors like patients in hospitals, audience for orchestra, guests in hotels, passengers in airlines etc..After working for Robinsons for 5 days as a Sales Associates, I'm beginning to be more appreciative of the staff and the service that they try to provide..These people really try to go beyond their call of duty to ensure that the customers leave with a good impression of the company. Of course, there is that 1% known as the black sheeps.

After working for 5 days, my entire body's working from head to toe. Carrying the numerous suits, arranging the pants according to the sizes, cuts and colour, carrying the new stock, steaming the pants..wow..alot of work for my lazy body which has not been exercising since I don't know when..but,I actually enjoy being busy rather than pretending to be busy as my legs ache if I stand too long, that's why, if you guys ever spot me, I'm always walking around..Haha..The colleagues at my department are cool with all the promoters. They are helpful especially since this is my first time doing sales and cashiering..Of course, I've made mistakes here and there, but they are quite tolerant..Haha..But I guess, as time goes by, they will expect me to know every well almost everyting..Anyway, I am enjoying my job. I'm glad that I am given the opportunity to be in sales since when I graduate with a degree in Nutrition & Dietetics, I hope with the sales experience, I am able to better relate to patients requiring dietary advice.

Despite having a job to keep me busy, I am still worrying about that scholarship. I wonder whether I will get it or not. The suspense is killing me. I just hope that MOH will notify me despite the good or bad news. In the meantime, I'm praying very hard for the scholarship. Pls pray for me my friends. In the meantime, chill out...

The Road of Life

A rather meaningful email that I received and I thought I should share it with you all.

The Road of Life

At first, I saw God as my observer, my judge, keeping track of the things I did wrong, so as to know whether I merited heaven or hell when I die. He was out there sort of like a president. I recognized His picture when I saw it, but I really didn't know Him. But later on when I met Christ, it seemed as though life were rather like a bike ride, but it was a tandem bike, and I noticed that Christ was in the back helping me pedal. I don't know just when it was that He suggested we change places, but life has not been the same since.

When I had control, I knew the way. It was rather boring, but predictable it was the shortest distance between two points. But when He took the lead, He knew delightful long cuts, up mountains, and through rocky places at breakneck speeds. It was all I could do to hang on!

Even though it looked like madness, He said, "Pedal!" I worried and was anxious and asked, "Where are you taking me?" He laughed and didn't answer, and I started to learn to trust. I forgot my boring life and entered into the adventure, and when I'd say, "I'm scared," He'd lean back and touch my hand. I gained love, peace, acceptance and joy; gifts to take on my journey, My Lord's and mine. And we were off again.

He said, "Give the gifts away. They're extra baggage, too much weight." So I did, to the people we met, and I found that in giving I received, and still our burden was light.

I did not trust Him, at first, in control of my life. I thought He'd wreck it; but he knows bike secrets, knows how to make it bend to take sharp corners, knows how to jump to clear high rocks, knows how to fly to shorten, scary passages. And I am learning to shut up and pedal in the strangest places, and I'm beginning to enjoy the view and the cool breeze on my face with my delightful constant companion, Jesus Christ.

And when I'm sure I just can't do it anymore, He just smiles and says... "Pedal."

Waiting

How much time in our lives are spent waiting? Be it waiting for a friend to turn up for the date, waiting for that perfect job, waiting for the holidays etc. Seconds turn into minutes, minutes into hours, hours into days, days into months, months into years.

I too am waiting for MOH to call for that interview, waiting to go to Flinders where I enter another phase of my life--uni education. Sometimes, the wait can kill me...Yes, there are alot of things in life that I look forward and the wait, at times, kills me..But when the event comes and goes, I will look back and say,"Wow! That was fast!" I wish time would standstill at those lovely moments and not tick by so fast.

Time by Lindsay B.
My worst enemy
Controlling all that I wish I could control
Taking my worst moments
and making them longer
More painful
Your icy grip numbing my body
Until I give in
You give me no choice but to move on
Forget the pool of the past
The cool blue waters
That I could drown in so easily
Leap into the forest of the future
Never knowing which way to turn
In this unfamiliar maze
It all seems so simple to you
Simple like the rhythmic tick of
Your loyal clocks that surround me
Faithful Reminders
Of time lost and time wasted
The good moments melt quickly
Like chocolate in the palm of my hand
Sweet while it’s there, but vanishing too soon
Leaving only on a brown stain on my hand
And you expect me to be grateful
You speed up without notice
And I forget That time is passing
And these moments will soon be behind me
Joining the slideshow of my past
And the shadows of where I once was
But still I fall for your promises
Every time
Convincing myself that I’ll remember
All the memories I have created
And then I’ll always be young
I think I can defy you
And live in a moment
Forever
Your infinite ocean of memories
Recedes when I need it most
I struggle for something to hold on to
but you pull it out from right under me
Leaving me drowning in quicksand
You tempt me
With your flash backs
You haunt me
With reality

Recently, I have been losing sleep at night when my mind is raging with thoughts, thinking whether or not I'll receive the MOH scholarship. Call me a DSW (Desparado Scholarship Wannabe), but I don't care!!! At times, I think to myself, in what ways am I inferior to my JC counterparts? They may have taken the route most often tread but polytechnic students are also not that bad. Give us a chance and we can perform. Afterall, we are equipped with skills and are taught in-depth with regards to the area of our dipolma.

Dear Lord, I pray and ask that I will soon receive a call or a letter or an email from MOH telling me the good or bad news. At least, an indication whether I will or will not be granted the scholarship. In Jesus' name I pray, Amen.

My Birthdate & its meaning

Your Birthdate: August 18

Your birthday on the 18th day of the month suggests than you are one who can work well with a group, but still remain someone who needs to maintain individual identity.

There is a humanistic or philanthropic approach to business circumstances in which you find yourself.

You may have good executive abilities, as you are very much the organizer and administrator.

You are broad-minded, tolerant and generous; a compassionate person that can inspire others with imaginative ideas.
Some of your feelings may be expressed, but even more of them are apt to be repressed.

There is a lot of drama in your personality and in the way you express yourself to others.

Oddly enough, you don't expect as much in return as you give.

Lesson in Love

As I was browsing the internet today, I was curious and attempted a love test by Tickle http://web.tickle.com/.Here's the result that was generated:

Are You a Secure Lover?
Why You Choose the Mates You Do
Joanna, you have a Secure relationship attachment style. Image hosted by Photobucket.com

You tend to be an open and trusting romantic partner. You find it relatively easy to get close to people, and are generally comfortable depending on others. Attachment style begins in infancy with the interactions we have with our parents or primary caregivers. Through these early relationships we begin to understand the dynamics and patterns of close relationships and we carry this perspective into our adult relationships. 10% of those who have taken our test share this style of attachment. When you choose a romantic partner you tend to gravitate towards those who have what psychologists call a secure attachment style. These are people who are warm, open and trusting. People who have a secure attachment style are typically comfortable with themselves and show a high regard for others. Your answers on our test show that when it comes to relationships you probably had a solid start in life and you have developed primarily healthy relationship patterns. While you may not have resolved every issue, you have already developed strong relationship skills.

Goodbye..

Goodbye - A word used often and can be used in different events. What does goodbye mean? As defined by the dictionary, goodbye is a word used to express an acknolwedgement of parting. As quoted by Richard Bach, "Don't be dismayed at good-byes. A farewell is necessary before we can meet again. And meeting again, after moments or lifetimes, is certain for those who are friends."

As I attended the last ASc meeting for the AY04/05 on monday (9th may 05),I was filled with emotions. Although the attendance was quite bad with the AFSN yr 3s out on SIP, the ChemE yr 3s out for training, people working, overseas etc, we have been together for almost a year, braving all the "storms". Yes,we were not bonded together as a club when we first started. There were too many ideals, too many opinions etc. However, as we come to the end of our "term/office",I just can't bear to leave you guys. Its has been a GGRREEAATT year despite the various hiccups and the not-so smooth execution of events. But, HEY!! Nobody's perfect and we learn from mistakes right? As I bade my farewells to Emily,Joanne & Sheewee after we completed the finance forms for my event, I cannot describe the feeling that I felt. It felt like I couldn't bear to leave them, or rather, ASc.

This 1 year certainly thought me alot about leadership, budgetting, people management etc and not forgetting the many friendships that I have forged in ASc. Yes!!! As my msn nickname says,"I will miss you peeps in ASc!" To Joanne, for being there as a club president, bringing the club to a whole new level, trying hard to bond everybody together and being involved in each and every event. What more can we ask for? Roy, for being the Vice-President, rather tough 1, with your muscles and all...Pooi Leng, "Ah Pui" for being the secretary..Shee Wee, for writting those great minutes while Pooi Leng was on SIP,for bring laughter to the club, and for being there for me. Did I forget to mention that you make a good punching bag though I know you detest it!!! Emily, for being a GGRREEAATT treasurer! I must say, you make me feel so lazy, but nonetheless, you made sure that our finances are in order. What more can I complain? Jingkai, for his muscles and cash as QM..Alan, for being the asst QM and forever volunteering his services, will remember you as WT's "husband", Fadhli & Jeremy, welfare head & asst respectively, kudos to ALL your efforts for remembering our birthdays!!!Thanks for the lovely cakes!!! Eugene, will remember you as the magician..Qian Hui, really regret not knowing you earlier, you have so much to give in terms of your creative juices..Yan Ming, for bringing the club together. You have alot of ideas and have taught me alot...Thanks for the many advices. Woan Ting, I've always enjoyed your company since we joined the club as sub-coms..Talking abt grades, further studies, being firm, teasing you about being Alan's "wife"..Shuyi, for being the shy girl, hey! Have more confidence!!

As the saying goes, behind every successful husband is the supporting wife. Without the sub-coms, we, as main coms would have been able to execute each project successfully. Si Yuen, for always spelling your name wrongly, "Remember to buy vegetarian food!"..Hui Lin, a responsible gal, hot, smarty-pants, lots of creative juices..Charlene & Augustina, for being the twins, I had problems differentiating you guys and took alot of effort!! Audrey & Hui Jing, for the effervescent personality and the never-ending encouragements..David, for all the beautiful pics and the endless suggestions that you have..Grace, for always being so blur!!!My goodness!!Jeffrey, you have "grown" alot since oltc..Zhenling, for helping out for the events, neat & organised freak..Woah!!You are better than me..Azuan & Hafiz, spicing things up and for my endless quest for textbks!! Bibi, for laughing at every sentences..Deborah, for being known as "bouncy".You have good leadership quality. Not forgetting the others, I regret not getting to know you guys better...Maybelline, lynn, derek, huat chew, jesslyn,venice,fiona...

"Why can't we get all the people together in the world that we really like and then just stay together? I guess that wouldn't work. Someone would leave. Someone always leaves and then we have to say good-bye. I hate good-byes. I know what I need. I need more hellos." Quoted from Snoopy...

Yipee!!

It's a Happy Day
And I thank God for the weather.
It's a Happy Day
And I'm living it for my Lord.
It's a Happy Day
And things are gonna get better
Living each day,by the promises of God's word.
Hmm,just came back from swimming this morning and got myself alittle tan. My mum says I'm getting so dark like those characters from the Cadbury chocolate..Haha..But I don't care, love to be tanned.I haven't been this colour since sec3?..Ever since I stopped training with the first-aid team,NC2,or rather stopped doing footdrills, haven't gotten that dark since. Anyway,I received a phone call from Robinson's HR and guess what? I GOT THE JOB!!!Yeah!![Woo Hoo!!!]Can't wait to start earning money..Haha..Hmm,gotta go down to Robinson's on 16th May for a briefing. On 18th May,there's cashier training at Specialist's Centre at 10am. And then,I start my 1-month work assignment at Robinson's Centrepoint. Hmm,wonder which department I will be posted to. Ok,friends, should you see me at Centrepoint, remember to say "HI!"
Btw,I want to congratulate Sophie for getting the offer letter from NTU..I guess, they knew you were a "DLUW"-Desparado Local Uni Wanna-be...

Work

Hmm...I have not felt so much time in my hands before. Before the camp, most of my time was spent having meetings, making sure that things were in correct order etc. Now, I feel quite funny with so much time on my hands..haha..Hmm, went down to Robinsons' for an interview today as Temp Sales Associates. I'm not too sure whether I will get the job cos there were so many people in the queue. The company may not be paying at a rate that I want but at least I get paid. The rates are $4.50/hr on weekdays and $5.50/hr on weekends. As I wanted the one month asssignment rather than the weekend assignment, there is a $180 bonus incentive upon completion of the contract. Let's just see whether I clinched the job!

Talking about money, I am quite worried. Tomorrow, my mum and I are going to the agnecy to pay up the remaining amount of my school fees, miscellaneous fees and housing fees. I really hope that I will be awarded the MOH scholarship. I can't imagine the amount of money my parents have spent for my education. It is indeed a hefty sum. Pls Lord, grant me the interview with MOH and then, after that award me with the MOH scholarship.

"... whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it and it will be yours. Mark 11:24"
