Cupid's arrow

"Love is in the air..." sings one of my colleague, every morning for the past week since my dinner date. And, I get so much teasing despite being at the department for couple of months. Period.

Anyway, my dinner date was fantastic and I got to learn more about him - he drives (YIPPEE!), can cook (which is fantastic!), does the housework (another + point), knows what he wants to achieve in life. The more he talks, the more I find myself fantasizing. Oh dear!!!I wonder if I'm really falling in love. ARGH!

The very mention of his name, brings a smile to my face and an adrenalin rush. Is this love? Every night as my head hit the pillow, I close my eyes and pray to the Lord, asking Him if he is the one for me? If meeting him is part of the plan and that he will be the one who I will be spending the rest of my life with? Then I ask the Lord that he has the values that I ask for - the guy has to be God-fearing, provide stability - emotionally, spiritually and financially and to love me as much as he loves God.

Back to reality, I need to find out if he likes me too. I always believe that I will not go into a relationship with a guy unless he will be the one that I will be spending the rest of my life with. Otherwise, why waste time? Anyway, my colleague asked me to check out his body language when talking to me and to observe his pupils as he talks to me. If his pupils dilate while talking to me, it means that he has some sort of liking for me. You know, God created human beings in a very smart way - by giving us HORMONES! Anyway, the hormone that is being released when one feels loved is the same one as eating chocolate which causes dilation of pupils - tried and tested by my colleague and me.

Test:
You have to do this a rather well-lit place, preferably natural sunlight and just observe his/her pupils as he talks to you (Please don't stare!). If there is dilation, it means (s)he has liking towards you. If there is no change, oops, sorry! Try it out!

Till the next post!

What career will suit your personality?

I know I'm only couple of months into my first job but I like the reassurance that the field that I am in, is "correct" one.

Here's my analysis. Career Quiz

You would be very happy in a career that utilised your level-headedness, and allowed you to work mainly on your own. You want a career that allows you to be creative, without having to be involved with lots of people. Some careers that would be perfect for you are:
  • Artist
  • Historian
  • Banker
  • Novelist
  • University Professor
  • Photographer
  • Vet
  • Paralegal
  • Graphic Designer
  • Online Content Developer
  • Webmaster
  • Producer
  • Managing Director
  • Nutritionist
  • Advertising
  • Nursing
You like working and being alone. You like to avoid attention at all costs. You tend to keep to yourself, and not interact much with the people around you. You enjoy spending time with a few a close friends. You like to listen to others, but don't like sharing much about yourself. You are very quiet and private.

You are very practical, and only act after thinking things through. You don't like being forced to answer quickly. You have to evaluate the situation completely. You make decisions based on what you can verify with your senses.

You like to be deeply involved in one or two special projects. You like to be behind the scenes. You are very logical and fair. You feel you should be honest with others and protect their feelings.

You trust your gut instincts. You are easily inspired and trust that inspiration. You are very innovative. You analyse things by looking at the big picture. You are concerned about how what you do affects others. You worry about your actions and the future. You tend to use a lot of metaphors and are very descriptive and colourful in your choice of language.

You are very creative, and get bored easily if you don't get to express yourself. You like to learn new things. You don't like the same old routine. You like to leave your options open.

Pretty much true. Most importantly, the working environment should provide a place where one can grow and enjoy each other's company.

Please get my name right

I cannot understand why people can't get my name right! Its JoannA (say Jo-An-NA) and not JoannE (say Jo-ANN)! My name ends with an A not E! Seriously! Time and again, I have to correct these individuals who make an error.

With my best friend, its the same case. Her name's Sophie NOT Sophia! I really cannot understand why people cannot take time to see and read other people's name correctly. Its better to take time to read and save your's and the individual from some embarrassment. Frankly speaking, I'm so used to being called Joanne that I just correct the person without feeling anything.

Please, get people's name right! I'm sure you'd like others to get your name right as well?!

Life's little emotions

I noticed how cheery my posts have been. Well, I reckon I'm into one of my emotional moods. Just today, I had a talk with my mentor re finding happiness in life. Happiness can be found in any shape and sizes. Its basically your approach towards it.

I feel that there are too many things that tie people down unnecessarily and when we get caught up with life's nitty-gritties, I find that I get quite uptight. I can't generalise for the rest. Just recently, I spoke to my boss about applying for 3 days leave to go on a family trip to Shanghai. As it falls within the month of April where the hospital will be undergoing re-accreditation for JCI (Joint Commission International - similar to ISO but this is world class accreditation), staff are generally not encouraged to take leave during this period since anyone (the auditors are targeting junior staff and I happen to fall into this category) may be called for auditing. So back to my topic, my boss told she has to check it out and will let me know if I can take leave for the first 3 days of April.

Coincidentally, I received a call from HR today to collect my access card and my new name tag. So, I used the opportunity and enquired about taking leave prior to my first 3 months and was advised not to take unless absolute importance or I could take no-pay leave. Upon hearing the statement, I felt rather "sian" (I can't find a better emotion to describe it). I need to speak to my boss about it - I will probably not take it until 9th April or rather from the month of May.

Anyhow, I think a need a weekend getaway / retail therapy / holiday. The daily routine: wake, work, rest, sleep is starting to get rather monotonous, with occasional dinner meet-ups with Soph to spice up my life. I think I deviated from the title of my post. To keep Jo happy, short trips anyone?

A silly mistake

I'm so ashamed of myself today! Here's what happened: (Be warned, contents maybe hurt the eyes! Proceed at own risk!)

For the benefit of those who do not know, my N73 mobile has been giving me trouble since last Nov. Seeing that my one year warranty will be up this Feb, I thought I should send it to the Nokia shop for a free repair. So my xiaomei assisted in bringing it to the repair shop. On the same day, my dad's phone decided to die on him! So, my xiaomei had to make a second trip to the nokia shop for repair. (This is just the intro!)

Anyway, when my xiaomei returned from the store, she placed my dad's sim card, memory card, battery on the telephone table (which I did not know until very much later). Being uncontactable for 5 days on my personal mobile, I decided to insert my personal sim card into my office phone last night. Seeing the plastic bag with the sim card, battery on the telephone table, I assumed that it was mine since I saw my office mobile on the contact list. I asked mum and she confirmed that this was mine.

So I happily inserted the sim card into my office mobile, only to be greeted with a screen that prompted me for a password. I typed in "12345", it read code error. I tried "1234", it read code error. I tried "00000", it read code error. On the third try, the sim card was blocked and it requested for a PUK code, which I obtained quite easily. After entering the PUK code, I was greeted with a 'create new pin code'. I then keyed in "12345" and it read code error. As I could not get it right, I rang up customer service and reported the difficulty I was facing. The operator could not offer any solution as well and advised me to visit any Hello! shop to change my sim card.

I proceeded to a Hello! shop this am and narrated what happened to the customer service officer. She provided me with a new sim card. With a new sim card, the contacts in the old sim card needs to be copied over otherwise, you lose all your contacts. But, since the sim card has already been blocked, there was no way the officer could copy it over. I resigned myself to fate that I had to ask people to give me their contacts via MSN/emails. So, when I got home, I wanted to check if the phones were ready for collection. When my dad picked up the plastic bag that was placed on the telephone table, I looked at him and said, "that's mine!" Only to be corrected by my xiaomei that it was dad's! You should seen my reaction at that point!

So all this while, I was having my dad's sim card in my phone. No matter how hard I tried to deocde the password, I could not get it right. So, after getting the PUK code for my dad's mobile number and entered the existing password, his sim is working as good as new and all his contacts are still in there! Otherwise, I'd be guilty for I don't know how long for the STUPID mistake I made!

Lesson learnt: next time Jo, please check with the person who brought the phone for repair!

Lovey-dovey

Each night as my head hits the pillow, I mutter a prayer to the Lord, thanking him for seeing me through the day and for all the little blessings that He has performed in my life. Before I end my prayer, I would ask Him about the plan He has mapped out for me i.e. if I will spending life alone or together with someone else. I always ask the Lord to give me a man who can provide stability - financially, emotionally and spiritually, is God-fearing and godly and when the right man appears, I ask the Lord for me to be discerning so that I will know he is the one for me.

True enough (I still don't know if he is the one for me), I received a text message from a colleague, inviting me out for lunch after I send him a text message, wishing him all the best for his exams. This was followed by a series of text messages asking about how he was spending V-day and about religion.

Lunch was a simple fare of korean/jap food. There was not a period of awkward silence and heeding my mentor's advice, I allowed him to lead the conversation and added my bits and pieces whenever I felt it was necessary. By the end of lunch hour, I learnt alittle more about him, such as where he resides, horoscope sign, birthday (minus the year but I did the math with my mentor and he should be older by a couple of years), likes and dislikes, hobbies, church of worship.

When I returned to the office, I was greeted with a wedding march and lots of questions from the dietitians. I provided a brief summary of how lunch went and my mentor advised me to send him a text message thanking him for lunch (which I already did when we parted ways) and arranged for future lunch outings saying that I will pay for the next meal. His reply brought a smile on my face and he said he enjoyed my company. A relationship has to start from somewhere and I reckon most of us start as friends. So, I'm taking it slow at the moment and maybe something good will come out of it?

Ooh..I feel loved!

Ps: Don't guess too much! I will update if anything happens! In the meantime, I'm still single and very available! *winks!*

Emotions

God created mankind in a very unique way by giving us emotions as well as a voice to voice it out. Isn't it amazing how one's emotion/mood can be easily affected by little things that happen around us?

As defined by Webster dictionary, EMOTION ( \i-ˈmō-shən\) is the affective aspect of consciousness : feeling b: a state of feeling c: a conscious mental reaction (as anger or fear) subjectively experienced as strong feeling usually directed toward a specific object and typically accompanied by physiological and behavioral changes in the body versus MOOD (\ˈmüd\ )
1: a conscious state of mind or predominant emotion : feeling; also : the expression of mood especially in art or literature
2 archaic : a fit of anger : rage
3 a: a prevailing attitude : disposition b: a receptive state of mind predisposing to action c: a distinctive atmosphere or context : aura

Anyway, I noticed that I suffer from mood swings throughout the day. Receiving a text message from someone dear cheers me up very quickly and the next moment, I'm feeling upset/angry if a patient irritates me and when I get home, I feel frustrated if mum nags at me. No wonder we often blame our hormonal levels for all the different feelings that we experience throughout the day.

Anyway, lovey-dovey things have happened to me and I'm feeling so loved! With V-day just passed, I feel like love is still in the air. Don't guess/speculate too much. Jo is still single and very available! I will post the story up when I'm up to it. In the meantime, I'm so looking forward to the weekends!

2008 CNY

This year's CNY feels different from last year. Perhaps, its my first CNY where I am earning my own keep and have to give red packets to my parents - for bringing me up and of course, seeing me through school. I noticed that I am not as excited as I used to when I was younger re hongbao collecting. I no longer care about the number of hong baos that I collect or the total amount that I will be receiving but any extra cash will always be welcomed! Moreover, this year's lunar new year feels alittle bit special as my da jie is home from Shanghai, which makes the house seem a bit more crowded. Although we always have a big family - its weird, ain't it once one is away that the house seem empty? Anyway, with da jie's return is also the meeting of her new boyfriend (which mum, my xiaomei and I share the same opinion but its not very convenient for me to say it here, just in case my da jie reads my blog!) - I hope that maybe they will tie the knot soon? I can't wait to be a bridesmaid!!! Keep dreaming Jo!

I also notice that as I grow older, the number of houses for visiting is dwindling so much so that most of my relatives gather at my aunt/uncle's house for dinner on the first day where we catch up with one another. The older generation asking about marriage or work or school while the little ones entertain themselves with their own games! I seriously think we need more kids in the house as the little ones are growing up too quickly!

My xiaomei and I

My not-so-little 2nd cousin (Ezra)

Anyway, the past 4 days just passed too quickly with having to work on saturday just shortening my long break away from work. So, its back to work for most of us and let's make monday a cheery one rather than a blue one! Till the next post!

1st pay?!

On tuesday afternoon when I returned to the office after my morning Diabetes clinic, I saw a sealed letter that read "pay advice" sitting on my desk! Without hesitation, I teared open the letter to see how much pay has been credited into my bank account.

When I saw the amount, I was alittle alot bit disappointed. I worked so hard and my pay is so little. My colleague was nice to remind me that its only for the 3 weeks in Jan. So, I comforted myself and gave myself a pat on the back for having survived the first month of working life. Really, money earned is blood-sweat cash. You studied so hard and then spent the rest of your life working to pay off loans, personal maintenance etc. Having said that, if you recall a post that I posted couple of weeks back re what I'd do with my first pay, this is what I have done so far:

1) Set aside $700 to repay my monthly study loan
2) Set aside $300 for my savings
3) Give my family a treat
4) Give soph, ainul a treat
5) Return my xiaomei $150
6) Make a new pair of glasses
7) Start driving lessons I have already signed up to take the theory test!
8) Sign for tap dancing classes

I'm so glad that my second pay is coming in another 2 weeks time as Jo is gonna be so broke soon! Anyway, here's wishing all a sparkling and prosperous new year!
