Being newbies for the first time, people of all ages, race and sizes as well as different coloured number tags greeted us at the stadium. The 10km race was flagged off at about 7.40am while the fun run was flagged off approximately 10minutes after. At the beginning of the race, I could hardly jog as people started strolling and we were soon met with a bottleneck while trying to get out of TP into Bedok reservoir. Once Soph and I got past the bottleneck, we started jogging and ducking out of muddy puddles, thanks to the early morning rainfall. While running, I was surprised that I could actually talk (not in proper sentences of course). Before we know it, Soph and I crossed the finishing point, clocking a time of 39mins and 25secs (after factoring the flag off time for 10km runners).
After we crossed the finishing line, there were no instructions of where to go so we both aimlessly went to collect our goodie-bag, which consisted of 3 pairs of Mizuno socks and a Mizuno Polo tee (for those taking part in the Fun run). We then walked back to TP's stadium, thinking that the bags will be there for our collection. To our dismay, we learnt that it was at the carpark at the reservoir. We strolled back to the finishing line, feeling hungry, smelly and sticky. Thank goodness for the milo van which saved me from fainting. With some energy, we went to collect our bags with a scene greeting us of people "auctioning" bags. As time went on, with no sight of both our bags, suddenly we heard a familiar, "1866 (soph's number tag)". I pushed my way through the people and got hold of Soph's bag which I then caught sight of my own pouch too! What luck.
With our bags in tow, we decided to head down to Serangoon central for a sinful meal of MacDonald's breakfast where we spent some time reminiscing the good old days! Having accomplished this run, we both decided to sign up for the Great Eastern Life run on 26th October.
My number tag!
