How many of us have faced failures in life? I suppose every one of us have experienced failure(s) in one way or another.
Everybody loves success. We all strive hard to achieve it. In all areas of life, we want to be SUCCESSFUL! The thirst for success is a God given passion in our hearts. There is nothing wrong in striving to be successful. On the opposite face of the coin, is failure. Most people hate failure. Sometimes, I may hate myself for failing or not living up to my expectations! However, we can take heart that God looks at things in a different light. Being human, we are all prone to fail, fail and even more fail. No one sails the ship of life without an unbroken sail of success. At times, the reason for our failure is because our aim maybe off or our judgement maybe faulty. However, failing doesn't make us a failure as long as we NEVER ever give up trying! Very often, our problem is not with failure but our attitude towards failure.
Are failures in life bad after all? NO! There are benefits and blessings that are hidden in each failure that we get. Failure is the opportunity for us to start again. It also challenges us to excel in our efforts to try again. God understands our failures and never look down on us. Instead, He uses the Holy Spirit to help us.
Since failure is so common among us, we should learn to respond to failure constructively. Successful people know how to turn their tragedies into triumphs. They always treat failure as a stepping stone to success. Right response is often the key to success. Whether we fail or succeed we should respond to that in the right way. Our response always determines the result. Therefore, we should learn to :
1) Accept responsibility for failure: "Anyone who refuses to admit his mistake can never be successful. But if he confesses and forsakes them, he gets another chance" (Proverbs 28: 13).
2) Ask God for Wisdom and Grace: "If you lack wisdom, ask God who gives generously to all…” (James 1: 5) and "A righteous man may fall seven times, And rises again.” (Proverbs 24: 16).
3) Forget the past and focus on the future: In the bible it says, "Forgetting the past and looking forward to what lies ahead, I strain to reach the end of the race and receive the prize…” (Phil. 3: 13,14). Lastly, “ …let us run with patience the particular race that God has set before us. Keep your eyes on Jesus, our leader and instructor” (Hebrews 12: 1,2).
