Friday the 13th

Is it a superstition that Friday-the-13ths are doomed as unlucky? Well, my friday-the-13 was spent travelling to the Royal Adelaide Hospital (RAH) for some time of ward allocation where I spent time talking to patients about themselves and about their diet and rushing back to the Hall to report to work for the last Formal Dinner (whose theme was Supersitition, Myth & Mayhem) that the Hall will be having for the academic year.

In the morning, I was trying to make an appointment with Health Counselling for a review appointment with the date and timing that I wanted but no such luck! I had to settle for some timing between my lunch break. Then, Phoebe and I wanted to make an appointment with the Housing manager to discuss some housing issues that we have for next year and again, we cannot get the time slot that we wanted. Fair enough! After all the "hassle", we headed down to RAH. Anyways, when I arrived at my ward, I approached the nurse at the nurses' station and asked for patients who were alert and able to hold a conversation. I was given 2 names but as luck would have it, Bed 12 patient was in the shower while Bed 30 patient was having an education session with the diabetes educator. Fair enough. I left the ward hoping that either patient would be available after lunch. I went down to the lobby of the hospital silently saying a prayer that I would be able to complete at least 3 diet histories for the day so that I will be closer in meeting the minimum of 10 diet histories for submission by 3rd Nov.

Praise the Lord for answering my prayer! After some time in the lobby, I went up to the ward again and patient at Bed 12 was back from the shower. So, I conducted the interview with him and got to observe the serving of lunch for awhile. I'm glad that things picked up when I returned to the ward after lunch and managed to meet my quota for the day.

As I needed to return to Uni Hall by about 4.15pm for some time of rest, Phoebe and I left RAH at 3pm to catch the 3.35pm 216. (For the benefit of those who do not know, buses in Adelaide run by a timetable). Anyways, the bus was late and only arrived at 3.45pm which means I would return to Uni Hall later. Anyways, Kar Hian called and told me to go to his place for some fried rice. Good! Shall space your eyes the details!

Reported to the dining hall at 5.15pm but was told to write in the clock in time as 5.30pm. We were pissed! (which means, we get paid lesser). But as luck would have it, half-way through the Formal dinner, the fire alarm went off!! For a moment, I thought it was a joke! But the Associate-Dean who was on the stage when it happened told most of the Hallies to file outside while we waited for the fire truck to arrive.

In a nutshell, friday-the-13th wasn't so bad! Or was it?
